Perfection, being an absolute, is a necessarily unreachable state in the human condition. We live in a world of relativity, where each day may feel better or worse than the previous, but the perfect day can only exist in dreams of circles and squares. SeaTac airport. Just before 8 a.m. after an all-night pre-departure push at work, trying to leave projects with sufficient momentum to glide through a week. Cross-eyed with fatigue and cursing the fact I’m not drinking coffee given my heart has been acting up a little. Thinking of Aviva, en route to the Calgary airport. We’ll connect in Denver, me a couple hours ahead. It will be the first, and likely the last, time I have been in the lead during the lead-up to this race. She’s been out front the whole time.
